This trade was in a Dynasty League 35 man roster Starting Lineup 1qb 1rb 2 wr 1 te 2 flex 1lb 1 dl 1 db 1k

A team with a pretty good roster wanted dominant WR(top 5) He hit up a couple of owners and got nothing. He finally was able to work out a trade involving Team 1 Tom Brady, Hines Ward and C Portis for Team 2 Reggie Wayne, R Mendenhall and Benjarvis Green Ellis.

Half of the League threw a fit. I believe that when it comes to trading my role as comissioner is to make sure first that there is no collusion. Second that both owners are aware of what they are doing and are happy with the trade. (especially when it involves future picks) I feel Dynasty league trades are supposed to have a little more latitude than redraft leagues, soley based on a particular owners value and future stock of other players.
Let me know what you guys think.

ps team 1 still has brees and Ryan as qbs

I can't see any collusion at all. This is a trade that two people have agree to. Everyone values players differently. What are the other owners complaining about? Most leagues highly valued Brady and Portis. I can't see an issue other than a strong team got what he wanted after offering similar trades to other owners. The issue more lies with the other owners for not offering anything to this dude to get the three he was offering up.

I like how you didn't post what exactly the league was up in arms about because it will get you better reactions here.
It would help to see the rosters (offense) of both teams though.

Personally I don't see what the problem is.

You do mention Team 1's QBs which means he is still stacked.
So he gives up Brady (underperforming, probably still good years left), Ward (old), Portis (old/injured/about done) for the Top WR in the game, Mendenhall (unproven, Steelers not sold on the guy) and Jarvis-Green (scrub).

I don't see the problem at all here, especially if it addresses needs of both teams.
I'm guessing the league is thinking that Team 1 gave up too much? I don't think so considering both Ward and Portis are about done and Brady isn't any spring chicken either. But Team 2 I think got what he needs if he's really weak at QB especially and both Ward and Portis should be servicable for a couple more years yet.

Either way, even not knowing the rosters, looks just fine by me. Good dynasty trade.

I have been remiss, post trade rosters. Team 1 is stacked for our league

After seeing both rosters I think this is an awesome trade for both teams.

Team 1 while stacked certainly needed an upgrade at WR. This will help him push for a championship for sure.

Team 2 obviously needed a QB really bad unless Warner comes out of his funk, even so he's hurting. He also needed an RB really bad, in the worst way. Team 2 is definately rebuilding but this one trade should help his competativeness right away this year and Brady should be solid for another few years for him, Portis should be solid another year or two as will Ward while he rebuilds.

Again, this is the poster child for dynasty trades (in my mind) and is great for both teams.

So what exactly is the problem some teams have? That Team 1 got stronger? Big deal, it's the nature of a dynasty league. Heck, in mine I traded off Romo in the off-season for a first and second rounder next year and some prospects. He's over the top now and I'm nearing the end of my rebuilding and what I got will really help me.

We are on the same page completely. Half of the league In my opinion is stuck in a re-draft trade mode. Re-draft ,this trade makes no sense, it would be considered collusion. They feel Team 1 gave up to much and I should have vetoed the trade. I see this as a classic Dynasty trade.

I think the trade is fine, dynasty or re-draft.

The trade was basically Brady & Portis for Wayne, which when you consider Brady this year in addition to that team also having Brees and Ryan still left on the roster, it's an entirely balanced trade.

Looks to me like a good trade. It's been my opinion that the word collusion is overused, and that most trade protests are based in the protester's frustration that he couldn't work a deal that good. The whole point of working the deal is to improve a roster, if each owner agrees they are getting what they want, there should not be a problem. With that in mind, let me share a quick story.

One of my leagues is an 8-team keeper. Although I and a couple other members have finally succeeded in getting the league to agree to an expansion next season, this remains a relatively simple league, with each team keeping 3 players each season. We had a new owner this season take over last year's champion team. That owner decided to retire on top. Billy comes in, keeps Drew Brees, Trent Edwards and Michael Turner, lets Chris Johnson go, and drafts the Packers defense with his first pick. The collective groan in the room prompted this response from Billy, "Hey, I paid for it, it's my team, I'll fuck it up if I want to."

Billy is currently 2-0, ranked 2nd behind the Adrian Peterson owner.

My point is that unless there is obvious cheating, most trades should go through, even more so in a dynasty league. I think you're right in approving the trade and you shouldn't let the boo birds stress you.

AGREED!

Not a single thing wrong with this trade. Keeper, redraft, whatever... this one is fine. Brees is in the guys back pocket, Brady's value is therefore diminished sitting on his bench compared to if he was on the open market.

I've had two stints as our leagues commisioner, for total of seven of the last sixteen seasons, and it seems like the most straightforward apples / oranges trades are always the ones that rile up the league. One team has plenty of apples, but needs an orange and vice versa for the other guy... Makes perfect sense for both of them... but people see what amounts to a QB being swapped for a wide reciever and suddenly the "this trade would NEVER work in Madden 10" reflex kicks in and it's cheating all of a sudden.

We've managed to get past this kind of stuff years ago by stating that all trades are basically allowed, the commisioner can only veto if he feels that an obvious play is being made for one team to hurt it's own chances to help another. Players can only override an approved trade with a 75% majority. Anyways, no obvious player dumping in this trade, so it would stand in our league... and I doubt any of our guys would even flinch at it... at least not publically.
